Abstract

Coconut plat is one of versatile plants that has high economic value. Virtually all parts, from the
root to the leaf and also the fruit, of the coconut tree can be used for human needs. Besides to be
eaten, coconut fruit can also be processed into copra. Coconut shell is one of the byproducts of
the copra making process which rarely utilized, only in some places coconut shells are processed
into charcoal by using traditional method which has low value added. Coconut shell can also be
used in acoustic panel making. The purpose of this community science and technology (Iptek) is
to encourage the use of coconut shell as one component in acoustic panel making which can be
sold by coconut farm workers which in turn will create more jobs and increase the community
earnings in Luku and Rarampadende villages in West Dolo. The method in use in this activity so
that the community can adopt the technology of using the coconut shell as component in acoustic
panel making is training and learning by doing method. To ease the transfer of technology,
tutoring sessions are held so that the community can produce and be able to market the product
which in turn will create new businesses in the villages and strengthen the village people
economy. The result of this program is acoustic panel measures 30 x 30 cm and 20 cm thicness.
