Abstract
Mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, can be acted as an
information resource for developing system management in education,
especially in higher education. Mobile devices are able to narrow the distance
between people around the higher education. Mobile devices-based
management information system provides flexible access to management
information system at anytime and anywhere. Most management information
system currently rely on computer-based delivery. However, computers still
burden higher education’s official, instructors, and students with limited
mobility and flexibility. To provide more convenient access management
information system, mobile devices have been increasingly adopted as a mobile
method to the management information system. In this paper, it will be shared
the experience in designing and developing a smartphone for accessing higher
education management information system. The system was developed using
4D model (define, design, develop, disseminate). The research was conducted
in Djuanda University of Bogor. The main contributions of this paper include:
1) how to develop mobile application of management information system in
higher education; 2) the main technical issues of applying the application in
higher education; and 3) good and bad factors of using the application.
